By Co-President Gan Ping Sieu Supporting the Royal Institution's Lead in Curbing Extremism
Wednesday, October 18, 2017
Political leaders and top government officials should take the cue from the Malaysian royalty which had stepped up to the plate in curbing rising extremism in the country. Of late, the royal institution had displayed its wisdom and courage by calling out on words and deeds that had threatened to unravel the fabric that holds this nation together.

Such unconventional candor on the part of the royalty also underlies the leadership vacuum that had allowed radicalism to breed in the first place. For a long time, those in power have chosen to tip-toe around touchy subjects, than to do and say the right thing.

As a group that promotes moderation, we welcome and deeply appreciate the royalty stepping in. We also call on those in power to spare the King and Sultans from having to do the job that is rightly the political leaders' in the first place. In fact, failure to abide by the aspirations of our Malay Rulers is deeply disrespectful.
